this week we have a very lovely giveaway from miss tiffany of muntedkowhai! tiffany creates the most lovely jewelry pieces - i want to own every single one. i'm very excited to kick off our weekly giveaways with her beautiful necklace she has so generously donated. you can also see her work and postings at her blog, so be sure to stop by for lots of inspiration!
please share a little about yourself: I was born in Hong Kong but grew up in New Zealand until I moved to Oregon 10 years ago! Time flies! I'm a full time cancer research scientist and Muntedkowhai (pronounced: munted.ko.fai) came about as a hobby and I started selling the pieces because there is only so many crochet scarves, gloves and necklaces each relative would want from me!
tell us about your company: Muntedkowhai pieces are a mixture of contrasts: texture (between bold metal and delicate lace), designs (modern using traditional methods) but most of all, my vision is to have my pieces worn with everyday clothes to add a touch of embellishment.
how did you get started making jewelry: I have always crochet but never jewelry until I followed a lace pattern for a belt and was too lazy to finish the entire piece (a bad trait of mine!) that I stopped short and drapped it over my chest and thought what lovely neckalces lace would make!!
what inspires you? My inspirations come from my materials which are vintage buttons, charms, chains and the original free form lace patterns I make. I don't know how a necklace will turn out until the lace is finished and I go through my stash of buttons and charms to pair for the right look. This is my favourite part of Muntedkowhai creations.
what is your favourite food: oh my gosh, i love to eat, period. if I had to choose it would be hainese chicken rice.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hainanese_chicken_rice . It is a popular malaysian dish (i'm half malaysian chinese). I love it because the rice is cooked with the chicken stock from which the chicken was cooked in. It is super delicious and at the tender age of 14, I polished 4 plates by myself.
