happy friday - yellow:

Photobucket
happy friday! i am lately obsessed with the color yellow. not so much yellow yellow but this shade of golden-rod-deep-mustard yellow. i ordered these 2 pairs of shoes (by seychelles + steve madden) in my favorite yellow for possible wedding shoes. other found objects: floral tape dispenser, vintage vocab cards, a wooden spool, and some flocked yellow wallpaper! yellow has been my mom's thing for the past 15 years or so. she always, and i mean, always wears something yellow and her friend's call her anna banana ;) so i guess it's rubbed off on me a little.

well, this weekend we are going to be at unique oc, my last craft show before the wedding. photo booth love will also be there, my little brother will be running it so you can come meet him ;) what are your weekend plans?

i want to thank everyone for your sweet comments and emails from my wednesday post. i have felt more peace as the week has gone by. this is random but i heard from a friend that her aunt just shaved her head when she started to loose her hair, so she wouldn't have to watch it fall out. anyone who has known a loved one with cancer (or been through it yourself) - is this something you'd recommend? because i thought about suggesting it to my mom.. i'm really not sure and want to be sensitive to her.

thank you deeply for all your love and support. hope you have a wonderful weekend and see you on monday!

xo.

  13. Yellow is one of my favorite colors right now -- it's so bright and cheery and summertime-y. As for the hair, my cousin decided to buy a bunch of hats she really loved and wear those. Everyone is different in what they need to do. I'd certainly suggest it to your mom -- she can decide what she'd be most comfortable with. I should imagine shaving one's head might be liberating though. Have a wonderful weekend, Danni!

  14. I love mustard yellow!

A while ago Joanna Goddard blogged about a woman who two young boys and had cancer. Before undergoing treatment she cropped her hair very very short (pixie cut) so that when she did lose her hair the change would not be as dramatic and her boys would not be as shocked. It was very sweet and thoughtful and she looked beautiful. I thought, if I am to ever go through chemo I would do exactly that.

  15. We love yellow...this is the perfect hue! And what a tribute to your mom to use her favourite colour in your wedding, so lovely!
My sister in law chose to shave her head when it started to fall out after chemo...her husband did it for her and it made it so much easier for them than watching it slowly fall out, day by day.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all! Lily

  16. Hi Danni,

My neighbor/friend from church also got herself a cute short cut. I'm guessing it's a lot more difficult to watch your hair fall out if you are loosing long locks and like the above poster said, it will be less dramatic for yourself and your family. Will be praying for your mom!

  18. I love this color! My husband's grandmother gave us a set of vintage sheets with flowers this very color. Since they are twin sheets I can't use them, but I would never let them go.

My mother was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. In addition to learning that she has only a short time to live, she was devistated when she started losing chunks of her hair. I did bring up the suggestion of getting all shaved off, but she can't make herself do it just yet. It will have to be on her terms, and only when she is ready. She has had a very difficult time finding a wig, which only worsens the situation.

I will send a little prayer up for your mom.

  19. That mustard/goldenrod just won't quit! It is the best color of all time. I agree with Alice in that your mom will probably decide in her own time how to deal with her hair.

After my mom's kidney transplant, she lost a ton of hair and what remained was of a weird texture. But she just used a heck of a lot of hair spray until it started coming back. :)

I wish you and your mom the best!

  20. Yellow is the happiest color!

My Mom decided she wanted to get a FIERCE haircut before all of her hair fell out. She had her favorite hairdresser come to the hospital and he cropped her hair into the pixie cut she always wanted but was to afraid to try...

Later when she was at home and her hair was falling out my sister and I took her outside in the sunshine and shaved it all off. Dad got it all on video to remember it. It was hilarious, emotional and soothing at the same time and surprisingly she looked GREAT bald.

I suggest cutting it short so it is not such a shock when it does fall out. Have your mom get the daring haircut she has always wanted!!! End the end-it is only hair-it will grow back. Her health is what is most important. I would get her a new soft scarf to wear too, maybe something in yellow... :)

    Praying for yall!

  21. Its only love..Everything is love...Your wedding is even more sacred now...Your mom will win this!Bellieve it!
Make her understand that this came from her and she can reverse it.She has the power! She is a divine creature after all.
And yes shave the hair off. Its more dynamic approach. She should be in charge!
    And trust...Trust Him..
Give love ..be love...and try to be grateful for all you have. Dont lose your sunny smile! And take some time everyday for you..
Your wedding will have the best ingredient together with your delicate aesthetics..
It will be full of HEART.
By the way those shoes are so cute!A piece of sun on your feet!
Your blog friends will pray for you.And its been proven that prayer for someone from a distance even with knowing the person has amazing results.
    God is beside you.
    With all my love

  23. I LOVE those Seychelles. Was so bummed the aqua sold out for my own wedding shoes!

I have a friend who's got cancer who got a super-short choppy do before her hair started falling out. Less to fall out, so I think that can help.

I am sorry you're dealing with a wedding and your mom's cancer at the same time. I know that's got to be especially tough.

My finace's dad passed away from cancer right as we were going to get engaged, which was the most difficult thing either of us had ever gone through. Now two years later, life does go on and it does get sweet again, and we will honor him at our fall wedding.

  24. Ever since you wrote that first post about your mom and her addoration to yellow, I've associated you with Yellow :) Love those shoes!!
About the hair issue... I personally think that it's how she feels inside. Sometimes people prefer to shave it all off cause it's less painful to just watch it fall off, but some actually prefer to hold on to what's left, and even though some falls off, they cling on to what's still attached... You can just bring up the subject and see if she's comfortable discussing it with you :)

  25. i love that shade of yellow, too. it is just so warm & pretty. happy weekend!

  26. Hello there! I LOVE the glorious golden shoes! So pretty!

Also, I wasn't aware of your mom's health situation. Bless you both. She sounds like an amazing woman and my heart goes out to both of you as you plan your wedding and she gets her treatment. It sounds like you need each other in different ways right now. I will pray for grace and strength for both of you. I'm thankful that God's strenthgh is perfect when ours is not. Thinking of you and wishing you a restful weekend...

  27. My stepmom shaved her hair as soon as she noticed some pieces falling out. She's gone through chemo a couple times and has decided that doing it yourself (my stepsisters and I helped, so it was a giggly girly occasion) is much less stressful than slowly watching clumps come out in your hairbrush every day. I crocheted some little hats for her and she also had pretty scarves. It's tough either way, but maybe bring it up to your mom as an option?

My heart is with you! You guys will get through this together.

    P.S. Love the yellow.

  28. I wore yellow shoes in my wedding to match the sunflowers that were my main flower. I loved them and I still wear them all the time...a splash of color with a black suit is so much fun.

  29. my mother-in-law, who battled breast cancer a few years ago, chose to shave her head before it fell out. She thought it would be less traumatic than seeing her hair fall out in chunks. also, it was practical - she didn't want it falling out work.

    blessings to your mom!

  33. When my mom first noticed her hair starting to come out she scheduled an appt with her hairdresser and my girlies (her granddaughters ) and I went with her to get it all shaved off. For us it was less traumatic than watching it fall out little by little. We also discovered that my mom looked like a beautiful little pixie with no hair! Then we bought her some wonderful soft hats to wear that winter.
xo to you and your mom

  35. I was diagnosed with ALL leukemia in jan 09 treatment started the next day so that weekend I went and got a wig exactly the same as my real hair. After a few weeks my hair started to get bristley after chemo effects so I cut it to a bob which was fun. I was so worried how bad I would look with no hair. About a month later my hair was coming out in chunks so I worked up the guts to have it shaved. I got out wig and wore it in top of my shaved head. It was great because no one ever saw me bald. Today it's slowly growing back it's about two inches long. I'm not sure if you mum is comfortable wearing a wig but mine was just fantastic. It made leaving hospital so easy and built my self esteem x

  38. Hi Danni,

My mom had breast cancer a few years ago and then uterine cancer a year after that. She is currently cancer free-Praise the Lord!
But after her first couple of chemo treatments, she opted to have her head shaved because she said it was harder to see chunks of hair everywhere. Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, has a wonderful cancer program for women and there is a wonderful woman there who will shave the heads of cancer patients and them teach how to tie scarves on their heads all different ways. I took my mom to get her a head shaved. It was hard to watch,to see your mom go through something like but, with the Lord's help I was able to get through it without even crying. The following week, my sister and I, along with a couple of my mom's closest friends through my mom a hat party. It was so much fun! My mom had a blast and she got so many beautiful hats. Now that she is cancer free, she gives her hats away to people are going through chemo. It's here way of giving back all the love and support that was showered on her.

sorry for such a long comment.

i will continue to pray for you mom.

  40. Love that soft mustardy yellow colour. My sister meant to cut her hair short but didn't and in the end it fell out almost in one go - quite a shock but we laughed that she looked like a peasant woman in her headscarf when she was carrying bales of straw at the farm for her horse. She got to love her National Health wig - it made it so much easier for her to go out in public. Her hair is growing back now but she says she'll be keeping her wig for those "bad hair days"!

  41. Yellow is divine indeed.

As for the hair, you reminded me about a blog I have seen called silver strands (http://lovely-silver-strands.blogspot.com/). This cute lady cut off all her silver stands so she could get it made into a wig for her mother who was undergoing chemo therapy for ovarian cancer. You should check it out, it’s really sweet.

Have a great weekend. I’ll be sending good vibes (and prayers) your way.

  45. When my sister started her chemo she had a buzz cut and then when that short hair started coming out she had it shaved. I told her about your question and asked her if she had it to do over what would she do...she said most definitely she would have it shaved from the very beginning, without hesitaion. To be honest with you...I couldn't stand the thought of her seeing her hair on her pillow or seeing it in the shower etc...as you know when a loved one has cancer you have it too right along with them...You will be brave together!

  46. I'm also obsessed with yellow, which is probably why this wedding we shot in Iowa (featuring yellow!) is still at the top of my favorites.

Sending much love to you, your mom, and your family. A friend of mine who went through chemo did choose to shave her head, and she looked beautiful then and still does today. It didn't seem to take that long to grow in, either.

  49. One of my coworkers is going through chemo for breast cancer. When her hair started to fall out, she shaved her head and started wearing colorful scarves and hats. She was able to make the scarves look really cute, tied around her head. Now her hair is growing back. She is not a stranger to cancer, and clearly knew what to expect. I think everyone's response may be different, so that's great that you want to be sensitive to her emotions.

this is my first visit to your blog. im redecorating my room and already i have got so many great ideas from this blog (this coming from a person who is usually so indifferent to supposedly ''inspiring'' things!). love it. i regret that i cannot offer advice about your mom but i think that Katie Company who said that she should get a fierce haircut was right! love, hope, thoughts and prayers to you and your mom :)

  56. I clipped my hair after my first treatment and then shaved it when the hair started falling out 2 weeks later. I did feel more in control, but it didn't make being totally bald any easier.

  57. Yellow has so many faces, it can be romantic, modern, or quirky depending on how you style it! Yellow is great! I too am a big fan of the ocher/mustard yellow. :) Okay, that tape dispenser is so awesome! where do you find these gems? I am slowly becoming a collector of wallpaper so I am digging that wallpaper. Flocking rocks! :) Prayers for you mom in her fight against cancer.
