diy with Brittni:

January 21, 2011

Brittni here from papernstitch with this week's diy roundup. And today, I must admit, I have V-Day fever. Now, I know what you're thinking. Valentine's Day already? Really? Isn't a little early to be breaking out the hand-cut hearts and lovey-dovery diy's? Well I say, its never too early to start thinking about the next holiday. And actually, Valentines' Day is only a few weeks away. And you're going to need a little time to get these projects finished, right? So, let's just jump in to some V-Day DIYs. You'll like 'em. I promise...

If this crochet heart diy (above) doesn't make your heart go pitter-patter, you need to check your vision. Seriously, this little guy is so adorable. And there are plenty of ways the finished hearts can be used as well... attach a string and use it as a gift topper, crochet ten to twenty and create a heart garland, embroider a custom message for loved ones on top of the finished piece, etc. Lots of options here! You can get the full tutorial for making your own on Between the Lines right here.

This project is near and dear to my heart because I actually created the unravel tutorial especially for Valentine's Day last year. The idea is simple: stamp your message on a long fabric scrap or ribbon, attach it to a wooden spool and let your loved one unravel a letter straight from your heart. More unique than a card, but still easy enough for a beginning crafter. Click here for the step-by-step tutorial.

Third and fourth on our roundup today is Martha. And she has done it again with some great tutorials for yet another holiday. The heart shaped soap diy is pretty and practical. So this would be a great gift for mom. While the crayon hearts project would be perfect for kids. But I'd totally hang these in my house as well. They kind of mimic stain glass.

Why, oh why, didn't I think of this idea? I love it. And it's so simple! Grab some yarn and a little bit of wire and you've got yourself a LOVE-ly diy project from Family Chic. Of course, you can customize your word or phrase to say anything you want, and feel free to switch things up even more with different wrapping materials (like twine, long fabric scraps, ribbon, etc). There are a lot of possibilities with this one, so get to it! Here's the link to the tutorial.

I am curious... Are you crafting any projects for Valentine's Day this year?

Let me know in the comments!
