So about a month ago, I asked Nick to take me to M & M donuts. This little donut shop is family owned, and has crazy hours. (Opens at 9pm, closes at 12:30!) The hype is seriously there. People start lining up at 8:30. Nick & I got there at 8:45. We waited over an hour to get our donuts, yikes! I think we got back on the road at 9:55 or something. I don't really even like blueberry but these are really good.
They handed us a pizza box and we were like, huh? We opened up the pizza boxes and there were our doughnuts, how charming. Look at all that grease! Yum? Ew. But the donuts are just sooooo good, it's so hard to care ;)
Since we waited so long, I thought I'd get some extra to share with Lillian, since we were meeting for lunch the next day. I couldn't find any good boxes and I didn't want to stick these bad boys in a bag (that wouldn't make for cute packaging at all!) so I found an anthropologie gift box and the donuts fit perfectly!
Adding some japanese tape really does the trick to make anything look nice.
and it worked out perfectly, since anthro boxes
just happen to be so darn cute already.
Yum. Oh, funny ending to the story - Nick didn't even like the doughnuts! He doesn't like cake donuts, bummer. Well, more donuts for me! Just pop them in the microwave for 15 seconds and they melt in your mouth. I'd recommend trying them at least once. I probably will never wait in line for an hour again, but at least we can say we did it once. & it was worth it since at least I got some photos out of it ;)
Now I am wanting to hot foot it down to the bakery for some tasty treats!
ReplyDeletethat made my mouth water!

Oh, I totally recognize that pizza box! My husband's family in San Diego always buys from them. Their potato and rosemary pizza rocks! :p
ReplyDeleteAnd, doughnuts? Yes, please! A dozen ... right now!
Have a fun day! ;)
Miki.
Pretty photos! I hope they were absolutely delish considering the time waited in line!
ReplyDeleteDanni, all I have to say is thank goodness I have plans to get a doughnut with a friend today. Otherwise, I'd be ravenously searching through San Diego to find a place. And I LOVE your doughnut box. Definitely way better than the pizza box they came in. I'm seriously impressed by your packaging skills.
ReplyDeleteoh my those look insanely good!! Well worth the 1hr in line.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that package! perfection!

you are so clever! putting this nasty yummie fat dripping awesomeness into such a nice box really does some magic!
ReplyDeletedonuts are one of my newest favorite desserts! i have yet to try a blueberry one, but it sounds delicious!!
ReplyDeletedonuts are my faveeee! xoxo jillian:: cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteWe have the same thing over here on the East coast. A donut shop called Britt's. Only open four months out of the year and only for like 6 hrs. a day. People won't wait patiently in line at the Harris Teeter to buy a cart load of groceries, but they will stand for an hour in the boiling southern sun for six donuts! Go figure...
ReplyDeleteOh yum! Those look so so good! Wish the shop was near me! :)
ReplyDeleteUnique boxing by M&M Donuts and your idea for gifting donuts is great! Very creative.
ReplyDeleteHow funny, I took pics of these too!! It was just so pretty & yummy, I didn't want to forget them :) Thanks for sharing with me, dear friend! And thinking about the pretty packaging, of course - I still have the box, sitting on top of my dining table :) You're the best, Danni :)
ReplyDeleteMy friend keeps telling me about this place. I live in Downtown Anaheim, so this is a must for a resident!
ReplyDelete♥ the packaging concept! Even someone who is trying to eat healthy couldnt resist those donuts on that awesome package!
ReplyDeletelove the packaging! we ate at phil's bbq in sd the other weekend and it was amazing. same kind of thing ... you wait in line for about 45 minutes but it is so worth the wait!
ReplyDeletehere in Portugal we have a different type of "doughnuts": they are round, with no hole and we call them Berlin Balls, Bolas de Berlin. In some pastries they are a specialty! They are covered with sugar and cinnamon, so so good!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!! Guess I'm not the only one with a stash of gift boxes that get a new life with a dash of creativity ;) Great job – and those donuts remind me of the ones at Staccato Gelato here in Portland. The best cakey goodness but luckily no hour-long wait!
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't like cake donuts? What?! I'll eat them, haha!
ReplyDeleteSo nice of you to get some for Lillian. She'll love them.
Oh doughnuts! They are so heavenly. My man only likes cake doughnuts, where as I can always go for a light and fluffy raised gem with a simple glaze. But I'm happy to inhale either kind!

so unbelievably cute! LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI don't normally like donuts, but I am drooling right now. Are they cake? Are they muffins? Are they donuts? I don't know, but I want to eat one. PS- I love what you did with the box. I'm going to start wrapping gifts that way.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious and adorable:) Gotta love those greasy little meltinyourmouth pieces of heaven!
ReplyDeletethey should hire you for their packaging. I think anyone would wait an hour for your lovely box....maybe not the pizza one. :)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh those look amazing!!! wish we had a good donut shop around here. although maybe it's better we don't..
ReplyDeleteI just love those anthro boxes. :)
ReplyDeletewhoa, so weird. My niece and nephew live right across the street and after we dropped them off on Friday night after going to a show in LA I saw a huge line of people there and was like "what the heck?" Now it all makes sense!
ReplyDeleteloving that package! i used to work at Anthro, but they've really made their packaging so cute these days.
ReplyDeleteyou made it even cuter!!
those donuts look yummy, too!

After reading the reviews on Yelp, I must applaud you guys for your patience to wait in line for an hour. If they made their boxes as cute as yours, their line would be even longer...
ReplyDeleteyour packaging is always amazing!
ReplyDeleteif you a donut person and your ever in long beach check out this place called jerrys donuts its not famous or well know but they are open 24/7 and they make the best donuts fresh and they even make the non cake donuts for the hubby as well
I tried these last night for the first time! I waited three long hours, but it was oh so worth it. I'm not a fan of blueberries either, but the crunchiness and the glaze on top make it delicious
ReplyDeletemm i don't even remember the last time i had a doughnut!
ReplyDeletealso, the packaging looks amazing.
Nice one, the pizza box is cute, but poor Nick! Waiting an hour for doughnuts you don't like :(
ReplyDeleteYour friends must love when you come around, you always put things together in such lovely packages.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. Those look amazing! My husband and I love trying out new donut places - if only we lived closer! :-)
ReplyDeletei love m&m donuts! i waited in line at 845pm, 2nd in line and got my donuts right away. it might be b/c i went on a weeknight. drive-thru line takes longer than standing outside.
