I've been sitting here for a while trying to come up with something to post.. and this is really the only word that describes what my current state of mind is. Is anyone else feeling really uninspired lately? I just got back from Northern California last night - had lots of fun celebrating my mom's 60th birthday & went to a really great conference. Left the conference feeling really inspired and like I wanted to take over the world. (I'll be posting the notes I took at the conference to share with you!)
But now, I am just feeling really discouraged and in a weird funk. There are so many things I want to do, and since I can't put my focus on one thing -- nothing gets done! Does anyone else out there feel like that or is it just me? Any advice or things you do to focus and get things done? I think I really just need to focus, pray, and trust. Nicholas said to me this morning that we need to just surrender our plans to the Lord and trust in His will.
Anyway, sorry for the very un-inspiring post today. Today I will be mainly answering emails (have accumulated over 100!) and getting ready for our vintage market sale on Saturday and a very special someone's baby shower on Saturday as well!
The weekend is almost here! Talk to you tomorrow lovely friends.
No worries this happens to me all the time and even you posted a blank post I still stopped by! Ha thts how much I adore your blog! Have a good day
ReplyDeleteWhenever I have too many things to focus on I write each task down on an index card then post it on a cork board. Having everything displayed like this always helps me get back on track because who doesn't love finishing off a to-do list? =)
ReplyDelete@AIMC - That is so funny you mention that because one of the speakers at the conference said he just gets a bunch of post it's and clears out his brain! It sounds so helpful, I am going to try it this weekend! ;) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hate when this happens. Or I'm like "I could blog about this, but would anyone really care if I did?" Then I get really really indecisive. But it looks like you have some very inspiring things up ahead. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI have felt this way for over a week.... I think it comes with the wind-down of summer & trying to fit everything in.
ReplyDeletesame thing happens to me. when there's too much to do at work, i become less productive. i don't know where to start and there's too much in my mind to get going on one particular thing.
ReplyDeleteso i say... enjoy the "blank" break! instead of feeling guilty, look at it as a time when maybe your brain and body need a break :) and just take the time to enjoy it!
It's definitely not just you -- I'm in the same funk lately. I have a writing assignment to complete and no inspiration, and there are days when I need to write a blog post and my mind is just empty. When I'm not sure what else to do, I try to get out. That usually helps. Hope you find your inspiration soon, Danni!
ReplyDeleteMan, it's like you totally described how I'm feeling today...in the words of "annie" The sun will come up, tomorrow! :) I think God gives us days like this so we do learn to focus more.
ReplyDeletei think sometimes we need that: to quiet the mind. i just try to embrace it.
ReplyDeleteI am inspired by Nicholas' challenge as well! Thank you for posting.
ReplyDeleteDanni, I know exactly how you feel!! I want to go in too many directions all at once that I have no motivation to finish anything. Maybe it's the time of year?
ReplyDeleteI have SO been in that state of mind... many times. Sometimes blogging has a way of taking over your life, where you're always looking for how you can turn something into a post, and I find that totally saps my creativity, and my enjoyment of things I use to love! When that happens I usually just stop, take a deep breath, be still and remind myself that in the grand scheme of things, it's okay if I take a break. Your husband's advice is spot on, and doing that leaves you a great opportunity to ask for God's direction. Thanks for your openness + honesty! :)
ReplyDeleteThis happens to me as well. A few months ago I started keeping a journal to travel around with me to organize my thoughts. However, I really like AIMC's idea. I may just start doing that as well!
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone! If you need baby shower ideas, my friend did a guest blog for me on a button letter project: http://bit.ly/mP53QH
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more posts once you're refocused. It will happen.
I feel you *loud* and clear! Have been feeling the same way too and, based on the comments, you're clearly not alone.
ReplyDeleteIt happens... especially the not being able to focus part. Hello creative brain I guess!

Some days you just gotta go outside to the park or something and forget about the internet and pressures. :) It really helps me!
ReplyDeleteyou are so not alone in this. i was in the funk a couple of weeks ago. it was weird cuz i had so many ideas and tried to start a ton of them but then nothing was accomplished. sometimes, what we need is to take a break, a real recharge. hope you get to do that very thing, friend. :)
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way after the conference! I have so many great ideas, but I don't know where to start, so I've been doing other projects instead.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I have had it off and on all summer. I like to call it "summer brain"! :)
ReplyDeletePS. Saw you are speaking at ALT! It was so fun to meet you last time, hope to see you again this time around too.
i recently just got over a "funk" - i hate to say it, but it lasted a month or two. the other side is sweet and i'm trying to stay here! it's weird though, b/c i'm happy about the funk i was in now, it taught me a lot and i'm happier than i was before now. so the good, with the bad i guess right..
ReplyDeleteyeah, I go through random phases like that.. where I get into a funk. it will pass as well! I pray a lot and put more time and effort in the things that I love doing. then the inspiration comes!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya. I tend to meet up with a friend and we talk and get inspired and want to do all these things, but then when we part, other things get into our minds and then we lose all that crazy inspiration we had! I find it so hard to stay focused without worrying about things lately!
ReplyDeleteCan I just say that honestly my first thought was something along the lines of "seriously? Danni from Oh Hello Friend gets in funks? But she always finds and shares the best stuff, how can that be?" But then I read the rest of this post and was reminded that: oh yeah, you are HUMAN. You are allowed to be in a funk and have too many things swirling in your brain at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThat husband of yours is so so wise, Danni. :)
I've felt exactly the same way at the moment. Must be a global thing! Haha.
ReplyDeleteI know this is so spammy of me and I'm embarrassed to ask, but would
ReplyDeleteyou mind voting for me on the Body Shop Reviewer competition? I got

Thanks so much for sharing your authentic heart with me! I needed to be reminded that I need to surrender my plans to the Lord and trust Him! I'll be praying for you and Nicholas and I hope your weekend is a fantastic break full of focus and prayer. :) Thanks again for the encouragement and honesty!
ReplyDeleteHello :) I can so relate to this post right now. I have been in such a blank mood for a few weeks now. I haven't even wanted to go into my cupboard/studio! But..I read your blog today and I am now filled with new inspiration from all of your lovely posts. Thank you for being so consistently creative for all of us! xox
ReplyDeleteOften feel that way, although it's more of I-don't-know-what-to-do-first kind of blank...
ReplyDeleteCreating a list might help you to work out what's most important (or just plain overwhelm you...!) and do it...
Or go for a walk. Although, I'd have to be the first to admit I don't do it enough myself, it really does help your mind to go into in 'hibernate' and that's when I find often fresh inspiration, and even solutions to problems, come to mind...
Try it and see if either help you... :)

Sorry if I'm a bit late on the commenting, just read this post now and felt that I should share. I work in an ad agency and often go through these seasons (regardless of the time of year, whether its summer or winter - it's winter in my part of the world) but what is commendable is that you're committing this "funk" to the Lord. I find whenever I'm feeling completely snowed under or creatively dry I shut everything else off and focus on Him. Ultimately He is the source of all of our creativity.
