Social Media:

Social Media. Who even knew what this was 10 years ago? I think social media is so interesting - how it came about and what it is today. It's a must for businesses, and the art and science of getting followers. There are so many ideas and people who have tried to start up social media sites, and only a handful of sites actually make it. It's like winning the lottery if your site makes it big. I still remember seeing the co-founder of pinterest at Alt Summit when no one knew what pinterest was! Crazy.

I am a big user of social media. Personally, I spend a lot of my time on instagram. I love instagram. I'm a visual person and I like seeing what people are up to. I like being able to "photo journal" and document our life and look back and remember where we were and what we were doing.

I'm hardly on twitter these days and I've never really been that big of a user of facebook. I'm on pinterest for ideas + inspiration but instagram is still the forerunner for me.  Does anyone have any predictions for where social media is headed? Remember when my space was the site to be on? Wow, what happened? Anyone using google+? I still don't really get it. But who knows, maybe it'll replace facebook. I'm curious about you guys! What are your top social media sites you use? Feel free to leave any thoughts and your usage in the comments, would love to hear what you have to say on the subject :)

  1. so.. i don't have an online business. nor an offline one. i'm just a scientist-wannabe ;) i have a facebook account just to keep up with friends. i use instagram to see the world through other eyes but i mainly post pictures of my cats. yeah i'm THAT girl ;) never had a twitter account. i like inspiring images and for that i use pinterest (i got an invitation early on, through sfgirlbybay). i guess this is my main focus because i do have a bunch of follwers there ;) http://pinterest.com/synapse/

i got internet (at home) in 1999, with a modem connected to the phone. i remember setting an alarm to turn off the connection before reaching x minutes, to pay less. i've had a computer since '94 and my first paper for school was written in ms-dos :P it seems a lifetime ago but i'm only 30! everything changed so much that sometimes we cannot remember the simplest things...

with all this being said, thank you for sharing pretty things with us, through whatever media you use :)

  2. A few colleagues of mine are always having this discussion. I've just recently started using my Instagram account more frequently. I also use FB, Pinterest, and Twitter but, most of my social media is linked so it all equals out - I think, percentage wise.

  3. I am totally in the same boat as you are! Instagram & Pinterest have been my biggest social media influences on my blog and also the 2 platforms I love the most! Not a huge fan of Facebook and twitter is eh decent.

  4. I have like every social networking site. I love the interaction and finding new people and new designs through it all. I use tumblr and pinterest for inspiration. I also use instagram for inspiration at times. And twitter, facebook and blogger to keep up with people. :)

  7. I so do not get Google+ either! Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest & Instagram are the main social media tools I use, too, but Facebook is forever on my last nerve!

  8. The social network I use most often is Facebook. I'm still on Livejournal(!) and am on Twitter and Tumblr on and off. I've never had a Google+, Instagram, or Pinterest account... yet.

  9. I think I spend more time on Facebook than anywhere (mostly because I have my blog page AND my personal page), but I would say Twitter and Instagram are pretty equal. Then Pinterest.

I'm at my max for social media. If I were to add something else, I'd have to drop something in return. So that "new something" in the future better be something great.

  13. I have an awful habit of being on all social media networks. But as my son is getting more aware (he's only 17 months) I'm realizing I need to put the phone down and spend my time with him! It's a selflessness that I am learning more about. I wonder how he will feel one day when he sees his photos everywhere too. How he will react to seeing his baby booty or crying face when he pooped in the tub, etc. Curious to see what the future holds for us + social networking! Great post Danni!

  14. YES! Instagram all day every day! I would say 20% Pinterest. 5% Twitter, 5% FB. Goolge+ what?

  15. Definitely on Instagram more often than the other social media, followed by Pinterest. A picture can really convey what words can't. I've found so many new places to eat and events to check out through it.

  16. I use my blog for the most part , guess I need to step up my game. I have been using Dropbox though to save my file to. I like the fact they are always available and I don't have to keep coping my files to a portable storage device.

  17. I'm on everything! Including Google+. I also don't really "get it", but I feel like it is going to be the next big thing. Also it's got to be good for SEO since followers can 1+ your posts, boosting the links search rating. (At least I think that's how it works?" I also like the Communities feature. I'm part of several blogging "communities" and I just started my own called Brooklyn Bloggers. It's a great way to connect with people sharing the same interests!

  18. So funny! I just wrote a post about social media the other day and I am the exact same: all about Instagram and Pinterest. I'm really trying to learn how to utilize my Facebook and Twitter and be more active on them (so many things I'm just figuring out, now that I've finally decided to put some effort in). All the rest--Vine, Luvocracy, Stumbleupon, Snapchat, Google+...I haven't enough begun to learn about. It can be overwhelming sometimes to feel like you have to have a presence on everything. I think it's important to have a good social media/real life balance so I'm trying to just get a good rhythm and routine for these main four before I attempt to tackle anything else. Better to do a few things well than to dabble in everything, right?
